The Impact Analysis of Community Suicide Rate - Focusing on Social Capital and Social Economy Status of Community

Abstract
Social capital is an important indicator to represent social relationship surrounding individual. Few empirical studies reported on relation between suicide rate and social capital, especially the level of community. So this study aimed to examine to the association between suicide rate and social capital of community. The main independent variable is social capital which collected from the Seoul survey and social capital was consisted of trust, reciprocity, and civic participation. This study used the panel data which is made of yearly data from 2006 to 2014 and also used panel data analysis. To figure out proper analysis for this study, Pooled OLS model, Fix effect model and Random effect model were conducted.
We could figure out the association between social capital(trust) and suicide rate on male data. Male suicide rate was affected by aged-child ratio, ratio of the elderly who lives alone, birth rate, divorce rate, poverty rate and trust, but female suicide rate was affected by only aged-child ratio and poverty rate. So in this study has conclusion that the effect of social capital is different from sex. Social capital has an affirmative effect on alleviating suicide rate because Social capital could be built through collaborative processes in community. But social capital has very comprehensive concept, so subconcept and measuring indicators of it are very various. To substantive activity for development and investment to social capital, subsequent study which takes account for concrete concept and sex-difference should be conducted.
